“Total Evacuation” Advised Fearing Explosive Eruption of Taal Volcano in the Philippines

Manila, Philippines – After recent eruption of Taal volcano, with sporadic lava fountaining from the main crater, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), have advised a Total Evacuation of volcano island and High-Risk areas within 14 km radius of Taal Main Crater has been advised.  Population in other nearby areas have been advised to watch out for heavy and prolonged ashfall due to the Eruption.

The Taal Volcano, which is located about 60 kilometers, South of Capital Manila on the Luzon island, is one of the country’s most active Volcano. PHIVOLCS, have raised the alter lever to four, meaning an “Explosive Eruption” is possible in the next few hours or days. The highest alert lever is five, indicating an eruption is taking place
