India’s most cherished monument, the iconic Taj Mahal, has suffered damage due to a thunderstorm that lashed the city on Friday. According to reports, the thunderstorm that brought with it heavy rain uprooted several trees, has damaged the marble railing on the monument as the iron pipes installed at the side of Yamuna river fell.
The damages are visible in the pictures with pieces of marble scattered on the floor and uprooted trees. The Ticket counter, entry gate area too suffered some damage.
There are reports of Sikandra memorial suffering some damage too. Archaeological Survey of India (AIS) officials have rushed to assess the damage caused and plan restoration work.
