Taylor’s School of Hospitality, Tourism & Events recently hosted a HEX-Talk Executive forum to discuss challenges, critiques, and purposes on the various trends, issues, markets, projects of the Hospitality and Tourism Industry in Malaysia

The forum was attended by Mr. Jude Allen, Co-Founder Lumira Hotels & Resort who was also the Keynote speaker for the HEX-TALK, Mr. Gert Noordzy, Managing Director, Northside Consulting, Ms. Cindy Yeoh, General Manager, Mercure Hotel, Mr. Francis Teo, President, MACEOS (Malaysian Association of Conventions and Exhibitions Organisers and Suppliers) and the session was moderated by, Dr. Joaquim Dias Soeiro, Head of School, SHTE

Discussing how the vaccine can be the enabler to shift the profile of business in the hospitality and tourism Industry, Mr.Gert, explained the logistics on the vaccine distribution and assured that it will take it’s due course of time thereon Mr.Francis emphasized that the Events industry will get back to Face to Face mode as networking is the metabolising factor and the key essence of the industry. The session went on to discuss the various facets to be considered some of which were the preparedness of the industry to welcome the mass tourism, increase of travel bubble range, and resorts thriving in business. They also cautioned that with the industry’s road to recovery, people might be lethargic in terms of following the hygiene SOP’s and enforcing the same can be a challenge.

As the panel emphasized that the Hospitality and Tourism industry will thrive back they also unanimously resounded to Mr Gert’s advice that the students, the future leaders of the industry to manage their lockdown time to polish their skills and obtain new ones, by earning various online certification programmes, training, degrees, diplomas and to strengthen their profile. This is to ensure that the students have a higher chance of being hired once the industry has picked up its pace and the job market has opened up for recruitment.

The session concluded with the panelists taking up relevant questions from the participants and re-assuring hope for a brighter future for the industry
