India Set To Resume Issuing Tourist Visas

Related

New Delhi: To give the economy a fillip, the Central Government is working on its plans to start issuing visas to tourists again, said a senior official of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday.

It is likely that only vaccinated people will likely be allowed to apply for the visa.  The issuance of the visas will be done in a phased manner, according to the feasibility during that time, and will be open to all.

The tourism industry has been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Which has lead to the shutting down of several hotels and restaurants causing a massive job loss.

India had over 7-8 lakh, monthly visitors before all tourist visas were suspended in March 2020. Later, people could apply for some categories of visas like employment, business, etc but tourist visas did not resume.

On Wednesday, the number of Covid deaths recorded was 284 while the total number of infections was 27,176. For the last 80 consecutive days, less than 50,000 infections daily have been recorded. As a consequence, the number of active cases has come down to 3.51 lakh.
