Bodh Gaya To be Developed As Round The Year Travel Destination

Bodh Gaya, a major Buddhist pilgrimage site, will be developed as a round-the-year tourist destination, according to the officials of the Union Ministry of Tourism. The Ministry of Tourism is collaborating with several central ministries and the Bihar and Uttar Pradesh State governments to develop Bodh Gaya as a Buddhist tourism circuit.

Bodh Gaya is mainly known for religious and spiritual tourism, attracting the elderly. However, the government is making an effort to attract the youth population too. 

On Tuesday, a conference was held in Bodh Gaya on tourism, attended by the Director General of Tourism in the Ministry of Tourism, G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, and other senior central and state officials.

Rao said that the government wants to develop the sites related to Buddhism. He also said that the government is working on improving infrastructure as well as the air, rail, and road connectivity here, so that it can attract tourists from all over the world.

Bodh Gaya hosts the Mahabodhi Temple Complex. The city is famous as Buddha attained enlightenment here under a sacred Bodhi Tree.
