Indian Railways will add Vistadome coaches in Shatabdi trains on three more routes.
The routes will be from Delhi to Dehradun, Kathgodam, and Kalka. The coaches, designed to enjoy the scenic beauty of these regions, are expected to attract many tourists.
One Vistadome coach will be added to each Shatabdi train on these routes. The fare will probably be 10 per cent higher than the executive class base fare of these trains.
The Indian Railways has set a target of 90 Vistadome coaches by 2022 to meet the demand.
These coaches have a glass rooftop, pushback chairs, rotatable seats at 180 degrees, and wide transparent window panes. There are observation lounges with larger windows on the end wall and electrically controlled opalescence glass windows on the roof. A mini pantry and service area, a microwave oven, hot case, coffee maker, refrigerator, bottle cooler, and washbasin also exist. The coaches will feature a GPS-based public address cum passenger information system.
