A special tourism promotion program will be launched by the Sri Lankan government in five countries, including India, to help the tourism sector, said Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

The other countries included are France, Britain, Germany, and Russia.

Ranatunga said authorities have been asked to implement short and long-term promotion campaigns targeting tourists from these countries in the next few months.

He also wants the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau to accelerate the promotion and publicity campaigns in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, the Middle East, and several other countries to portray Sri Lanka as a successful country in administering Covid-19 vaccinations.

Around 13,547 tourists, the highest number in Sri Lanka this year, arrived in September. The total number of tourists from January 21, when borders were reopened, till October 13 was 45,413, said the Tourism Ministry.
